Team Squash
AFSC are again looking to enter teams into the regional leagues – Grimsby 3 Man (divs 1,2 & 3), Humbersquash 4 Man (divs 1 & 3/4), Lincs 3 Man (Divs 1 & (poss) 2) and Yorkshire 5 Man (Div 1).
Players who have expressed an interest in playing team squash will be allocated to a team(s). If you are interested in playing either as a full team member or sub please do not hesitate to contact Paul Matthewman or any of the other previous team captains.
There is a poster on the clubs “team squash noticeboard” which may help club players determine at what level of team squash they should be playing.
At the season’s end here is a round-up of how our teams performed:-
Humber Squash – Congratulations go to Marc Conor and his team who are champions of Division 2. This was the only team to be entered into this district league and they are looking forward to the challenge of Div 1 next season.
Lincs League – Our first venture for many years into this league and afsquash 2, captained by Joe Dixon, gained promotion from Div 1 to the Premier Division at the first attempt whilst afsquash 1 finished in a commendable mid table position.
Grimsby 3 Man – This is a league we normally manage to bank some silverware in however this years only real success was in Div 2 where Nigel Bratton led afsquash Norfolk Optics to Div 2 as champions. Unfortunately afsquash 1 struggled with injuries and players all season and afsquash 2, who had gamefully stepped into the Premier Division to make up the numbers struggled against the more established teams.
In Div 1 afsquash 3 consolidated their position mid-table after being promoted last year and will be joined next season by afsquash 4 who had a late run of results to end up in 2nd spot. Unfortunately Ken Cross’s team (afsquash 5) had an enjoyable but fruitless season in Div 3.
Yorkshire League - having luckily retained our position in Div 1 it’s proved to be a miserable season despite the best efforts of the team members including ranked Juniors Hamish Falconer & Sam Haycock. Unfortunately losing last years #1 seed to a premiership team put added pressure on the remaining players and despite some desperate “call-ups” from the club ranks the team unfortunately finished bottom and were relegated.
