Court Bookings – New Developments

The successful court booking system has had some further development work done that continues to allow members to book  a maximum six courts in a fourteen day period during the designated “Peak Times” and also book additional courts in “Off Peak Time” . Please refer to the court booking system for “Peak Time” information. When booking a court the system will advise if the court is in a peak time.

Club Presentations

In addition to a thrilling nights squash the annual AFSC Awards were presented in the Brumby Hall Social Club. After a short update on the club’s season by Chairman Peter Hindmarsh who also expressed his thanks to the other committee members and in particular to Steve Hame and Paul Matthewman for organising the leagues and cup competitions and also to Scott Taylor for his work with, and encouragement of, the Juniors and organising the Junior cometitions.

It was a great night for Dan Cheetham who won the clubs highest accolade “Players Player Of The Year” voted for by the members and really underlining how Dan has developed over this last year.

Dan also picked up the League Points Winners cheque for £100 with Lee Yewlett and Bert Cotter in second and third place. Barbara Dann won the Ladies Points and Liam Riley collected the Junior Points cheque. Matty Frith was voted “Most Improved Junior”

The Alan Dann Memorial Trophy for Team Captain of the Year was awarded to Nigel Bratton for not only organising his team and fixtures well but also for showing his initiative in securing team sponsorship. Steve Moir deservedly won the “Team Player of the Year” with his commitment, perserverance, excellent attitude and reliability been cited by his team captain Ken Cross in his nomination.

The Pettifor Trophy awarded by the AFSC Committee for a members contribution to the club was deservedly given to Dave Ball who has contributed excellently to team squash, club leagues and competitions over recent years.

Grimsby 3 Man Tournament Round-up

Hamish Falconer won the Grimsby 3 Man Tournament Premier Final against defending champion Dave Ball.

Sam Haycock won the Div1 Trophy, Paul Matthewman was Div2 runner-up and Harry Falconer won the Div3 Trophy and was also awarded the “Young Player of the Year”.

 

Juniors Making Good Progress

Joining Sam Haycock and his brother Hamish the talented U13 ranked Harry Falconer recently made his debut for AFSquash Inflight in the Yorkshire League (Div 1) as did Charlotte Kirkwood (U17 ranked).

Gym Equipment for Warm-ups and Cool Downs

A Running machine, Rowing Machine and Exercise Bike are now available for club members to use. Situated above court 4. Members should note that they use this equipment at their own risk and should be mindful of players using court 4.

Charity Night Raises £350 for the Macmillan Trust.

An exhibition match by World #12 Alister Walker and former World #5 Mark Chaloner raised £350 for this excellent cause. Six club members had each pledged money to play a game against Ali or Mark who also hosted a q&a session after.
