Yorkshire League
A very successful year for our Yorkshire league team - AFSQuash Yorks (Capt Eddie Docherty) who are promoted to the first division. Having spent most of the season top of the division we finished second following a late run by Chapel Allerton. We've high hopes for the squad next season who should consolidate their position within this very strong league.
Grimsby & District 3 Man League and "End of Season Tournament"
Unusually we didn't bring all the silverware back to Scunny this year with the seven teams having mixed results. In the Premier Division AFSquash 1 (Capt Alan Beal) finished in third spot just ahead of AFSquash 2 (Capt Ian Mallander) who enjoyed a fourth place finish in their first season in the top division. AFSquash 3 (Capt Nigel Bratton), again promoted last season, finished sixth in Division 1. Of the two teams in Divion 2 it was by far the more successful season for AFSquash 4 (Capt Paul Matthewman) who reversed a poor first half season to finish in fifth place. AFSquash 5 (Capt Peter Hindmarsh) who were in third spot at the half way stage had a miserable second half to the season finally finishing secon bottom (9th). AFSquash 7 (Capt Ken Cross) had the Division 3 bragging rights over AFSquash 6 (Capt George Sheath) by ending the season in fifth spot, a place above AFSquash 6.
Home team players success at the Grimsby Tournament sponsored by Cycles Plus was limited to the Division 2 Plate Final where Billy Timms beat Peter Hindmarsh 3-0. Adam Auckland who plays for our Yorkshire team won the Premiership Final defeating the experienced John Martin 3-0. Eddie Docherty was awarded the Colin Burnett Trophy for his contributions to the tournament weekend.
HumberSquash
With only three teams competing in this four man league it was pleaseing to see AFSquash A (Capt Alan Beal) have a good season and finish as runners-up in Division 1. AFsquash B (Capt Paul Matthewman) made a late run securing fourth place whilst AFSquash C (Capt George Sheath) kept out of the relegation zone by finishing tenth in Division 3.
